5 Reasons I Started a Business of Finding Great Deals

I have been a stay at home mom for years, and I’ve tried just about any type of business hustling trying to make more money.  I have tried a wedding floral business, wedding stationery business, and tried at least 5 different types of blogs.  I spent thousands of dollars only to gain experience and not actual dollars.  That has killed me over the years.  I spent so much time and effort over trying to make more money for my family, but none of those options worked for me. 

After trying different types of businesses/business models over and over I finally found something that worked for me.  I’ve been reselling for over a year now and it has given extra income to be able to start paying off debt, go on family trips, and help pay for medical bills.

For the Love of Finding Good Deals

About 8 years ago there was a time when my husband and I would map out estate sales to visit almost every other Saturday.  We would get up bright and early at about 5am, get breakfast, pack up for a long day and head out.  Almost every estate sale had something interesting to see, and the deals made were nearly limitless.  That made it so exciting.

In fact, back then we didn’t even have that much money to spend.  Sometimes we only took out $100 to spend for the day.  I remember there were days when we made it a game… Whoever got the best deal of the day won.  

There’s something special about finding something that matters to you when it’s a great price and you can afford to purchase it.  It’s that good old “kid in a candy store” feeling.  In addition, I loved finding things that I could resell on Craigslist or Ebay and make a little extra money because money was so short for years.  

I Needed the Money

Back when I wrote this blog initially, I was just starting to build the process of reselling.  Now, it’s been over a year and it has definitely worked.  I finally founded a business where I could find great deals on a daily business.  I have been continuously learning and growing as a reseller.  More on that later.

I’ve Always Wanted To Help Others

All my life I have wanted to be able to make enough money to first support my family, and then be able to give to others.  It’s one of my life’s passions.

Reselling Works for a Stay at Home Mom

By looking for deals either online or at stores I was able to work flexible hours and did not have to worry about needing to take time off for times like when my 2 year old got her back molars in.  Additionally I needed work that didn’t just give me 1-2 weeks off starting out.  I didn’t want the stress of having to work specific hours when my toddler was 2 steps away.   Soon she will be in preschool, but for now  I can work hours that are best for me.  When  I go shopping my husband usually watches my little one for a few hours and the rest of the work is done straight from home. 

Beginning Steps to Starting a Business of Finding Great Deals

First steps I took to set up a business of finding great deals or reselling:

  • Figured out a business name that had a .com domain name available through Ionos.com
  • Set up hosting through Ionos.com 
  • Got a fictitious business name at the Laguna Hills OC Clerk Recorder’s Office (Which was a great office because there was no line!  Yes you can do it by mail but I was super excited to start this business fast lol!)
  • Added WordPress to my website to make designing easier (I have built several websites and if you want a full guide on how to set up a website a good read is “15 Steps to Designing a WordPress Website For Beginners.”
  • Got a Federal EIN number online (Some places ask for this)  It’s super easy and quick, like 5 minutes. 
  • Set up a FREE, yes free, business account with USBank (I went in person to speed up the process)
